The weight loss industry is worth billions of dollars, and they are really not interested in your success. Every time you fail at weight loss you try another diet or trick. I know because in a small way I was part of this industry. When I was first practising as a Naturopath I sold a weight loss package in my clinic but it didn’t take me long to realize that weight loss was a lot of hard work for both my client and myself. I knew there had to be another way.
Before I talk about weight loss let’s have a quick look at how the sub-conscious mind works. The sub-conscious mind consists of about 95% of our total mind power and it controls all functions of our body – including the fat burning or fat storing function. The primary role of the sub-conscious mind is to protect us and keep us alive. There is no conscious decision making at this level of our mind. There are only reactions, beliefs, emotions and instincts.
So why do we think that if we make a conscious decision to do something that we are going to influence the 95% of our mind that isn’t even conscious? Does that mean we should give up, because our sub-conscious mind is going to react the way it wants to? No it doesn’t, but it does mean that we have to change the way we think.
To influence the reactions of your sub-conscious mind, to change your body from fat storing to fat burning you need to ensure that your sub-conscious feels completely safe and loved. You can do this by focusing on what you want not what you don’t want, you focus on being healthy and vital rather than losing weight. Before you can do this you must be grateful for what you have right now in your life and that includes the body that you have. Yes, be grateful for every bump, lump and squashy bit. Stand in front of your mirror without any clothes on and say thank you.
I know you think I have gone crazy, why would you stand in front of your mirror and appreciate your body? Because your body, like everyone else’s body is a miracle, consider what it does for you every single day to keep you alive. Even if you don’t always look after it and give it the best food, your body keeps on going.
Now what if, instead of hating your body and being critical of it, you really appreciated it? When you really love something, do you fill it with crap? Do you leave it to sit and go rusty? Do you ignore it or tell it that you hate it? No you don’t you cherish and look after it. Most people look after their cars better than their bodies, they put the correct fuel in it, they get it serviced regularly, and they keep it clean. You certainly don’t punish your car for not going fast enough by not putting fuel in it, or telling it that it isn’t good enough, or by not driving it. So why do you treat yourself and your body like this? Why do you punish yourself by starving yourself, or eating foods that have no nutrients, why do you think you aren’t good enough and why do you look at yourself with disgust?
If you want to change the way your body looks and feels then change the way you think about yourself and your body. Love yourself unconditionally and before you eat or do anything ask yourself this one question – “Is this the most loving thing I could do for me/my body right now?” When the answer is truthfully yes go ahead and eat the food or do what you want. If you stay in this place of self-love and acceptance you will never need to diet again, your body weight will be exactly right for your body and you will be healthy and happy.
